Beto O’Byrn (Co-founder of Radical Evolution, a multiethnic producing collective based in Brooklyn, NY)

For more than 15 years, Beto has worked as a theatre artists, playwright, director, and producer. His plays have been performed in Austin, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York City, Portland and San Antonio. He is the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and accolades for his theatre work and has participated in many festivals and residencies and has artistic affiliations with many prominent theatres across the country including 52nd St. Project, El Teatro Campesino, Pregones, New York Theatre Workshop, Stages Repertory Theatre, and more. He is the co-founder of Radical Evolution, a multiethnic producing collective based in Brooklyn, NY, which has been his theatrical home since its founding in 2011.

As an artist who was trained in the Chicano Theatre, Beto brings a socially aware, politically conscious aesthetic to his work in the theatre, creating plays that investigate little known histories, make visible socially inequities in in general work to shine a light on areas of or our world rarely seen on the the stage. And because of his teatro background, these plays work to do so with humor, music, and high level of theatricality and artistic rigor.
